Who Is the Witness?

There is something in you that watches your thoughts. It is not the thoughts. Finding it is the beginning of the spiritual path.

A small experiment Sit for a moment. Close your eyes. Wait for a thought to arise. When it does, ask quietly: *who noticed that thought?*

Whatever answered — that is the witness.

Not another thought The mind will try to give you a concept: *the self, the soul, awareness*. Those are also thoughts. The witness is the one **seeing** those concepts arise. It is closer than the concept, and it cannot be named without stepping out of it.

Why this matters Ordinary life places identity in the content of experience: *I am angry, I am successful, I am tired*. When identity moves to the witness, the same events pass through, but you are no longer swept away. Anger arises and is seen. Success arises and is seen. The seer remains.

A daily anchor Three times a day — dawn, noon, dusk — pause for one breath and ask: *who is aware right now?* Do not answer with words. Rest for a moment in what looks back.

Tat tvam asi. You are That.

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः

Peace, peace, peace.
