How to Actually Begin Meditating

Most people fail at meditation because they were given the destination without the first step. Here is the first step.

Forget everything you have heard Forget clearing the mind. Forget special postures. Forget how long a monk sits. You are not a monk. You are a person with a body, a schedule, and a nervous system.

The minimum viable practice - **Duration:** 10 minutes. - **Time:** Same time daily. Morning is best because willpower is highest. - **Place:** Same place daily. The body learns the location. - **Posture:** Sit upright on a chair. Feet flat. Hands on thighs.

What to do for ten minutes 1. Close the eyes. 2. Notice the breath entering and leaving the nose. 3. When the mind wanders — and it will, hundreds of times — gently return to the breath. 4. That returning **is** the practice. Not the staying.

What success looks like Success is not a blank mind. Success is a mind you have noticed. In three weeks of daily practice you will begin to catch yourself mid-reaction in daily life. That is meditation working.

Do not skip a day in the first thirty. After that, the practice holds you.

ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः

Peace, peace, peace.
